Teaching philosophy
My teaching philosophy is student-centered. I work hard to understand what each individual student wants to accomplish in lessons and develop a plan to help them reach their goals. As early and as often as possible, I incorporate music that students already know and like into my lessons. If I can teach a student a fundamental aspect of music or their instrument while teaching them one of their favorite songs, it makes lessons more fun for everyone. My three main priorities for all my students are:
1. Establishing good practice habits
If you’re practicing well and regularly, it doesn’t take a whole lot of time to make progress
2. Learning the fundamentals of music
For beginners, this means keeping a steady beat, learning the names of the notes, and reading standard notation.
For more advanced students, this means learning scales, harmony, and developing basic improvisation skills.
3. Developing an efficient and relaxed technique on your instrument
Good technique makes playing any style of music easy!
Testimonials from students and parents
"Cale is an incredibly gifted musician and instructor who is exceptional with students of all ages. Our 10 year old son learned a great deal under his instruction. He was kind and patient yet challenged him on a weekly basis. We would highly recommend him to anyone we know!" -Peter & Maria
"Of the great number of guitarists who attempt to teach, it is rare to find an individual who truly
merits the title of guitar teacher. Cale fits the bill. He is patient, extremely knowledgeable, and
clearly articulates concepts of technique, style, and music theory. As an adult student wishing
to learn improvisation and music theory in addition to simply playing songs, I am finding my
experience with Cale to be challenging and effective as well as tremendously enjoyable. He has
my highest recommendation!"- Beth
